This is an unbiased review of Ritual’s women’s health vitamins. What is in these supplements, are they easy to order, and how good is their subscription service? Ritual has been hyped up a lot recently in the NYTimes, Elle, Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar:

Are Ritual vitamins right for you?

Ritual offers two different vitamins, which they claim are specially formulated with only the nutrients that women need. These might be right for you if you are concerned about overdoing it on vitamins you don’t need, and if you want to be assured that the ingredients are high quality and not contaminated with anything unwanted, like heavy metals.

What are the advantages of Ritual vitamins for women?

A major difference from traditional vitamins is that Ritual cuts down the nutrients in their supplements into what they claim are “only” the ones that women need. Their position is that most people get enough of the micro-nutrients that they need, so their pills should only have the specific ones that many women’s diets lack.

Another advantage of these supplements is that the company lists where the individual minerals and nutrients come from. Ritual also says that they test every batch of ingredients to make sure it meets their quality standards. We found this line on their website especially comforting, “We also use a third party lab to test each batch, twice, for heavy metals, microbes, allergens, and other contaminants, ensuring they are below levels deemed safe by the FDA’s current Good Manufacturing Practices.

We have read reports of vitamins containing unwanted heavy metals, like lead, so this is a strong effort by the company to ensure a safe, quality product.

If you are a woman who has a varied diet, these may be right for you if:

1) You want a high-quality multivitamin

2) You need prenatal vitamins or

3) You only want to take the vitamins your body actually needs

It’s important to always review your vitamin supplements with your doctor to ensure they contain the right ingredients for your needs.

Ritual sends their product directly to your home – and they are sold via a subscription service. That means you don’t need to run to the pharmacy or grocery store, since the bottles come directly to you. There are many other brands that have taken up this model – check out our review of three of them here.

What kind of vitamins does Ritual offer?

Ritual touts two different types of vitamins for women, prenatal and daily vitamins:

Prenatal vitamins are extremely important for women who are planning on being pregnant or who are already pregnant. According to the Mayo Clinic, it is best to start taking these before conception — underscoring the importance of making these part of your pregnancy planning. Below is a list of the ingredients in Ritual’s prenatal vitamins. Take it to your doctor to see if it’s the right multivitamin for you! And no, you don’t have to worry, they won’t cause you to gain unnecessary weight.

Ritual’s “Essential” is a multivitamin for women intended to “fill in the gaps in your diet.” The medical community is less certain that a well balanced diet has any gaps, but if you are interested in a daily multivitamin, here is a list of ingredients that you can discuss with your doctor to see if this one is right for you.

Which nutrients are in Ritual Prenatal?

Ritual’s prenatal vitamins have the following nutrients:

  • Folate (1000 mcg / 1665 DFE)
  • Omega-3 (300 mg)
  • B12 (8 mcg)
  • Choline (55 mg)
  • Iodine (150 mcg)
  • Biotin (300 mcg)
  • Vitamin D3 (50 mcg / 2000 IU)
  • Iron (18 mg)
  • Boron (1 mg)
  • Vitamin E (7 mg / 10 IU)
  • Vitamin K2 (90 mcg)
  • Magnesium (30 mg)

What nutrients are in Ritual multivitamins?

These are the nutrients in the Essential daily multivitamin for women:

  • Folate (600 mcg / 1020 DFE)
  • Omega-3 (320 mg)
  • B12 (8 mcg)
  • Vitamin D3 (50 mcg / 2000 IU)
  • Iron (8 mg)
  • Vitamin K2 (90 mcg)
  • Boron (1 mg)
  • Vitamin E (7 mg / 10 IU)
  • Magnesium (50 mg)

What does Ritual cost?

Ritual has very transparent pricing, available on their website for both of their products:

They are definitely not the cheapest supplements on the market, so how does the company justify charging a higher price? First of all, the prices include shipping. Additionally, the company says that they offer a premium product, which justifies the higher price for the following reasons: high quality ingredients from places you can trust, aggressively testing the ingredients for contamination and purity, 100% vegan, easy to digest, easy to take with a special design that reduces the changes of nausea, non-GMO, and no synthetic colors or dyes.
